50 FREE Events – Keep the Kids Active in August around Bridgend

At PYB Health we are keen to promote a healthy and active lifestyle to the residents within our community, so to help you get out and about with the children in August we have put together a selection of 50 free activities around Bridgend to add some variety to your days.

NATURE LOVERS

Lots of events this summer have been organised by Plantlife.org.uk. The events are designed to encourage families to take an interest in wildlife and nature. From exploring the local woods to find bees & butterflies to spotting wildflowers and birds, there are plenty of opportunities to learn something new and to spark an interest regardless of age. Plantlife.org.uk have even got a couple of sessions of bat spotting if you fancy doing something different one evening!

SPORTING ACTIVITIES

Free swimming sessions are available at the Halo leisure centres (see timetables) & if you are under 16 or over 60 then there are other free sessions available as part of the Welsh Government’s Free Swim Initiative.

Thanks to funding from Bridgend Town Council, Garw Valley Community Council, Maesteg Town Council and Ogmore Valley Community Council who are helping to support an active, creative and fun summer for young people you will also find a selection of Active4Life free holiday activities for 8-12 year olds.

FAMILY FUN DAYS & FUNDRAISERS

There are always lots of fetes and fundraising fun days to go to over the summer and whilst the majority of these will be free to enter you should expect to pay out for bouncy castles and ice creams to keep the children happy. Many of the fun days are organised to raise money for local charities or good causes such as The British Heart Foundation and Kidney Research Wales.

Fri 2nd August

16:00 – 17:15 Free Swim Session Bridgend Life Centre – See flyer

Sat 3rd August

12:00 – 17:00 Porthcawl Lions Vintage Fair & Classic Car Show Porthcawl Rugby Club

with 200 Classic Cars, Craft Stalls and car boot sellers, BBQ, Bar. A fun day out for all the family.

Profits donated to local charities.

12:00 onwards Charity Family Fun Day Lawrence Park, Pontycymer

Proceeds made on the day will go to both The British Heart Foundation and Kidney Research Wales. Bouncy castle, bbq, soft play, face painting, bar, sweet stall, fire engine, ice cream van and much more!

11:00 – 16:00 Samaritans Fun & Open Day 2 Green Street, Bridgend CF31 1HF

Mini Mayhem will be bringing a bouncy castle, candy floss, slush puppie and popcorn machine for the kids whilst the grown ups can enjoy coffee and cake and a guided tour around the branch. Donations will be accepted on the day via cash or cheques.
